The incoming COP29 Presidency, Azerbaijan, will partner with International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) on the monitoring of progress towards tripling renewable energy capacity and doubling energy efficiency by 2030.

The Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) was launched in May 2022 and it currently includes 14 partners -- Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, the US, and Vietnam.

Looking at varying emissions-reduction scenarios, between seven and nine billion tonnes of CO2 must be captured from the atmosphere by 2050, according to the second edition of the University of Oxford's report on the subject.

The agreement between Azerbaijan's Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and IRENA’s Director-General Francesco La Camera was finalized on the sidelines of the Baku Energy Week. Both parties have also planned to host a joint event at the Pre-COP meetings in Baku, ahead of COP29.

As of March 2024, India's installed solar energy capacity stands at 81.81 GW, representing 63.4% of total renewable energy generation.

As resource-poor Japan expands renewable energy to meet decarbonisation goals and enhance energy security, battery usage is expected to rise to smooth out the intermittent supply of solar and wind energy.

The company will increase this investment around four-fold to Rs 450 crore spread over three years starting FY25, it said in a statement.
